The partnership will support the development of advanced digital and AI-powered tools for the UK military, accelerating decision-making, improving targeting, and strengthening national security. Palantir will base its European defence business in London, further cementing Britain’s role as a hub for cutting-edge defence technology. The company will also mentor UK defence start-ups and SMEs, helping them expand into US markets, including through pro bono support.
Defence Secretary Healey described the agreement as a “major vote of confidence” in the UK’s leadership in defence, data, and AI. He said the initiative would enhance the effectiveness of the Armed Forces while creating skilled jobs and boosting investment in UK innovation.
The collaboration is expected to generate opportunities worth up to £750 million for UK Defence over the next five years. Palantir CEO Alex Karp said the deal reflects the company’s deep commitment to Britain and highlighted the use of its AI-enabled defence technology on the battlefield in Ukraine and by NATO. Building on its UK workforce of about 1,000, Palantir plans to add up to 200 staff, alongside 150 roles in the wider UK defence technology sector.
The initiative will also advance the UK’s Defence Industrial Strategy by strengthening sovereign data capabilities and supporting software deployment across domestic and international markets. By mentoring British AI firms and expanding technical expertise, Palantir aims to help transform the Ministry of Defence into a data-centric organisation, ensuring the Armed Forces have access to the tools needed to respond rapidly to evolving threats.
